Today is a good day, I’ve had a fantastic weekend and it’s snowing. There’s just something about the snow that makes me so ridiculously happy and takes me right back to being a child again.
Apparently, not everyone feels the same. Yes its cold and yes our country seems to come to a standstill every time there’s the slightest change in weather…
But, look at it though!
It really made me think, we’re all big kids at heart but somewhere along the way we stopped appreciating the little things. But these little things if you let them, are often what make us the happiest.
Thankfully, one of the perks of being a Mum is getting to see the world through the eyes of my children. They remind me to shift my perspective daily and force me to appreciate life for what it is, one big adventure.
They are just so full of life. They wake up, expecting the day to be amazing and expecting to have fun. They live moment to moment and you know what… they are blissfully happy because of it. They are too busy having fun and making plans to care what anybody else is doing. They don’t see limits in what they want to do, they just see what they want to do.
When was the last time you completely forget about time and just enjoyed the moment?
So forget that its dinner time, forget your to-do list, forget that you’re an adult for just a little while and try to live like a child. Be impulsive, embrace new things and enjoy it!
The trouble is, you think you have time – Buddha
Try new things
Children always look on the bright side and make the best of absolutely everything. They don’t see negatives or limitations, they just think of what they want to do and they do it. Try new things and take opportunities when they come your way. Get out of your comfort zone and say yes to new adventures. Look at everything as a chance to learn something new and you never know you might find that you love it.
Until they’re given a reason not to, children love everyone. They don’t care who you are, you’re a friend until you show them otherwise. They are so innocent and beautiful in this way. Leave your judgement at the door and just be kind, to everybody. Make eye contact when you see people, smile and strike up a conversation. Take chances to meet new people and make friends.
Lose yourself in what you’re doing
Children have no awareness of what is going on around them (much to our annoyance), when they’re having fun. They don’t care if they’re being too loud, they don’t care if people are staring. If they want to jump around, they’ll jump around. Get lost in what you’re doing. Ignore time, ignore what you have to do, just take time to feel alive. Dance, sing, jump around, be silly and let it make you happy. Think about the things you used to love doing as a child and do them!
Happiness is the go to emotion for a child and every day is a fresh start. They don’t think about what happened yesterday and they don’t think about what could happen today. Live in the present, look for the little things that can make you happy. Take in your surroundings and appreciate them. Choose happiness, always.
We all need a break for responsibilities at times, its just good for your soul. You need to get out there, have fun and get out of your head for a while. These little, fun moments are what life is all about. Collect these tiny moment and enjoy them.
I spent the past weekend doing exactly this and I couldn’t believe how much I fitted into one day. Taking that time out, really refreshed me and made me more motivated for the week ahead.
As always, I would love to hear from you if you have anything to add. When did you last take time to just have fun and be a kid again?
